Jon Parkin recalls 'outrageous' Elland Road moment in flashback to 6-4 victory v Leeds

Jon Parkin has recalled the ‘outrageous’ moment when he was applauded by Leeds United fans after Preston’s 6-4 win over the Whites in 2010.

The Whites were 4-1 to the good at half-time but somehow managed to throw that away and lose the game from what seemed an unassailable lead in West Yorkshire.

The stocky forward had been a thorn in the side of Leeds during his career and this game was no different as he bagged a hattrick.

Parkin shared his memory of the home fans turning against their own side and applauding the Lilywhites, something he predicted has never happened before or since.

“I think one of the biggest things about the night was that when I got took off, the Leeds fans were clapping us,” he told Deepdale Digest.

“I’m like ‘are they winding us up here or not?’, and a few Leeds fans have spoken to us about it after, and they said they clapped us off. I can’t imagine it’s happened much, but I was like Jesus Christ, that’s outrageous.”

It’s hard to think that could happen again with Marcelo Bielsa at the helm, as we have only conceded four goals in two games since his arrival.

Such a catastrophic second half could even prompt our worst nightmare of El Loco leaving West Yorkshire, something that wouldn’t surprise us given his track record.

Leeds dominate games much more often and have the backing of a full Elland Road every single week – we were at that Preston game and that certainly wasn’t the case.

Parkin may recall that moment, but Leeds are looking forward and hopefully, that involves Premier League football next season.
