Jon Newsome shocked by ‘crazy’ thing that happened in Leeds game v Sheff Utd

Jon Newsome was left taken aback by the scenes that broke out after Leeds United netted their third goal of the game against Sheffield United on Monday.

The Whites beat their Championship title rivals to go five points clear at the top of the table after a hard-fought battle which both teams seemed to put everything into.

Chris Wilder’s men were the more dominant of the two teams in the first 45 minutes whereas Daniel Farke’s took command particularly in the latter part of the second half.

While there were times when it felt like the South Yorkshire side had got the better of their Yorkshire rivals, the Elland Road outfit managed to emerge victorious.

However, not everyone in the stadium was happy with Leeds’ third of the night which is what led to Newsome being left shocked.

Sheffield United fan’s actions put a downer on the game

As the game came to its close, a minority of Sheffield United fans entered the field of play just as Leeds were celebrating, with the Leeds United security member Martin Sykes seen ushering some of the players away from the angered supporters.

That’s despite the Blades’ fans doing the exact same when they netted their opener in the first 45 minutes.

It was these actions that left Newsome baffled.

“You’re going to celebrate, of course you are, just like I’m sure the Sheffield United fans celebrated when they scored the goal,” Newsome said while live on BBC Radio Leeds (23 February).

“To start jumping in and assaulting people, they’re all pointing their fingers now, crazy.”

Daniel Farke looking serious

Farke could lead the Whites to Premier League promotion

It goes without saying that Leeds’ main goal of the 2024/25 season was to earn promotion to the Premier League.

They narrowly missed out on going straight back up last season after they were beaten in the playoff final by Southampton.

However, Farke didn’t let that get him and his men down and with the reinforcements they brought in during the summer transfer window, they’ve got an even better team than the one they lined up with last term.

The likes of Dan James and Manor Solomon have both been key to the way that the West Yorkshire outfit have played this season and after their victory over the Blades, it feels nigh-on impossible that they’ll let the title slip out of their grasp now.

Indeed, there’s still plenty of time for things to change before the end of the campaign but at the moment, things seem to be going swimmingly in LS11.
