Former Leeds United player Simon Johnson has urged the club to sign West Brom's Matheus Pereira over the summer.

West Brom were relegated from the Premier League on Sunday after losing 3-1 to Arsenal.

It was the first time that Sam Allardyce has taken a team down as a manager.

During the game last night Johnson tweeted, "Leeds really should go for Pereira.... I want to see him at Elland Road next season please."

Later he replied to a Leeds fan saying that Pereira is a "proper player" and would contribute "to taking us to the next level for sure."

Proper player

Johnson is right when he calls Pereira a 'proper player'. We're big fans and we'd also love to see him at Leeds.

It's a move that could come off.

West Brom got him for the bargain price of £7.5m last summer and Transfermarkt currently value him at £11.7m.

He might well go for even more than that but we can't see him playing another season in the Championship – he's too good for that.

Pereira scored West Brom's goal on Sunday and he's been the one bright spark for them in recent weeks with five goals in six games.

In total, he's scored 10 goals and added five assists in the Premier League this season despite West Brom having a terrible season.

He can play on either wing and as an attacking midfielder, which would mean proper support for Raphinha and a place in the middle when the Brazilian is playing.

The prospect of Pereira improving under Bielsa and playing in our attacking side is a mouth-watering one.
