John Hartson thrilled by lucky Ezgjan Alioski on Thursday
John Hartson was left thrilled as Leeds United star Ezgjan Alioski opened his account for North Macedonia at the EUROs.
After a shocking first-half left his country 2-0 down, the defender stepped up to take a penalty, one he missed before scoring the rebound.
With strong rumours surrounding his future, Alioski could be putting himself in the shop window on the biggest stage.
Speaking during ITV’s live coverage of the clash, Hartson admitted that Alioski was a lucky boy in Romania.
“Alioski, he misses with the first attempt,” he said.
“He gets a little bit of luck, but doesn’t he take it well when it comes back to him, it’s a difficult one.”
It will have been a hard week for Alioski, with his name once again in the headlines.
After the clash with Marko Arnautovic in the clash with Austria, the striker was handed a one-match ban after his alleged racist comments.
It has taken some guts and courage to bounce back like this, as he was at the heart of everything Macedonia did as they pushed for an equaliser.
North Macedonia are the lowest-ranked team ever to feature in the EUROs, and it is brilliant to watch one of our own star for them.
Alioski’s goal was the first scored by a Leeds player in almost 20 years, and that is an incredible stat, he is always in the headlines.
Contract talks are still ongoing, but with only two weeks left to sort them, Victor Orta may have to pull off something special to make this happen at Elland Road.
