Celtic transfer news as David Turnbull tipped to make Leeds United move

John Hartson has suggested that a transfer to Leeds United for David Turnbull would make sense as his current contract with Celtic runs out at the end of the season.

The 24-year-old is still a key player at Celtic Park, starting eight of Celtic’s 15 league games so far this season and scoring seven goals. Turnbull has made 132 appearances for the Bhoys since signing from Motherwell in 2020.

The midfielder, who has been linked with AC Milan, faces an uncertain future in Glasgow, though, and Hartson suggested he could end up at a club like Leeds.

“I like David Turnbull,” he said to Go Radio, transcribed by HITC on Tuesday (5 December). “I have always said it, he is a goalscoring midfield player. He adds that 10-14 goals every year for you from midfield.

“I can see him going to a top Championship team, like Leeds United.”

Once rivals become a midfield partnership

With ex-Rangers man Glen Kamara currently making up half of Leeds’ midfield, the acquisition of Turnbull for Daniel Farke would pose a very interesting dynamic with former rivals teaming up.

However, joining the Whites could be an extremely enticing idea as they look to bounce back up to the Premier League after their relegation last season. English football would be a completely different challenge to contend with.

While Farke’s men need absolutely no help in the goalscoring department, with Joel Piroe, Crysencio Summerville, Dan James and Georginio Rutter firing on all cylinders, adding a free-firing midfielder to the mix will not hurt anyone.

If the player continues to see out his contract with the Scottish champions, it would be a no-brainer to sign the midfielder on a free transfer. Depth is never a negative thing when aiming for Premier League football.

Having been linked to a move to Italy, there are clearly attributes to Turnbull’s game that the elite in Europe are impressed by. Leeds should be too.
