Joel Piroe nominated for Championship award after ‘sublime’ Leeds United moment last month
Joel Piroe’s goal for Leeds United against Millwall last month has been nominated for September’s Championship Goal of the Month.
The summer arrival scored twice as the Whites defeated the Lions 3-0 at The Den in their league clash on 17 September.
And his opening goal has now been nominated for the award, with Piroe slotting the ball home after being played through by fellow forward Georginio Rutter.
“A goal full of counter-attacking pace, poise and precision,” according to Sky Sports. “The interchange between Rutter and Wilfried Gnonto was sublime, with Piroe skipping over the ball and finally slotting in.”
Superb team goal
Leeds have scored some lovely goals this season under Daniel Farke, both on an individual level and in terms of team goals.
And Piroe’s opener in the 15th minute against Millwall definitely falls under the latter category, with his fellow attackers Rutter and Gnonto working well together to bring the ball into the final third from deep.
Rutter then supplied an inch-perfect pass to Piroe, with the summer signing producing a calm finish to put his side ahead.
He has been a fantastic addition to the Leeds squad following his move from Swansea City, with the striker really enjoying his time at the Whites so far.
But all three attackers are certain to be key in the coming months as the West Yorkshire outfit push for an immediate promotion back to the Premier League.
It won’t be an easy task, but more moments like Piroe’s against Millwall will certainly make life easier for the Elland Road club.
In other Leeds United news, a team effort is helping the Whites in their Championship promotion push this season.
