Joel Piroe makes Leeds admission after Championship draw v West Brom

Joel Piroe has provided his assessment of Leeds United’s recent form and suggested what the future holds after a 1-1 draw with West Brom to complete a trio of tough games.

The Whites welcomed Albion to Elland Road on Saturday (1 March) as Daniel Farke’s men hoped to maintain their five-point gap at the top of the table.

The hosts took the lead through Junior Firpo in nine minutes but a Darnell Furlong header in the 39th minute cancelled that out and the game remainder that way.

Although it looked a possibility that both games could be lost, Farke’s side were able to come away with all three points against both Sunderland and Sheffield United in impressive performances with late surges.

However, facing another play-off side in West Brom on Saturday was never going to be an easy challenge and Tony Mowbray’s side made sure that was the case.

Despite a number of shots throughout the afternoon, too few of these were on target and it was not Leeds’ day to go and get another late win.

This means that despite going into the afternoon sitting five points clear at the top of the table, the gap has reduced to three points.

Nevertheless, taking seven points from three sides that are also pushing at the right end of the table, is nothing to be sniffed at.

Assessing the past few games of his side, Piroe admitted that what happens next is down to him and his teammates as he posted on Instagram: “Three big games, seven points.

“Not the maximum, but we look back on some great team performances and all is in our own hands.”

Leeds have to secure Premier League promotion

Leeds have been in spectacular form throughout the season so far but as the end starts to be in sight, the Whites cannot afford to get comfortable now and they must see this project through.

With the way the West Yorkshire outfit have been playing throughout the season so far, it certainly seems as though they would be able to put in some strong performances in the top flight and fight to retain their position in the Premier League.

Farke has been able to deliver exactly what supporters at Elland Road were after this season and the fact they have been playing good football as well as getting the results is what is encouraging.

The Whites probably didn’t see Albion as being the toughest game of their recent three but they would also have no doubt been somewhat sceptical about taking nine points too.

Therefore, Farke’s men should be feeling fairly pleased with what they were able to come away with from the sides also pushing for a place in the Premier League next term.

They key now is for the form to remain at its highest level and go on to put in more strong performances to guarantee results.

A trip to Portsmouth is up next for the Whites and while they are a side in improved form, Farke’s men cannot afford to lose a game like that if promotion to the Premier League is on the cards.
