Joe Urquhart stunned by Max Dean for Leeds u23s v Arsenal

Leeds United under-23s crashed to a disappointing 4-2 defeat against Arsenal last night at a packed Elland Road.

The young Whites took the lead twice through Sam Greenwood and Max Dean, but it wasn’t enough in the end.

It was Dean who caught the eye of many, though, with his ability and skill easily on show to those in attendance.

Writing on his personal Twitter account last night, Joe Urquhart of the Yorkshire Evening Post was stunned by the young forward in the second half.

“Post,” he wrote. “Max Dean with a wonderful effort… he curls a shot from distance onto the woodwork.

“Hein was beaten. Greenwood then smacks the post again from a tight angle but the flag is up.”

Next in line.

With Joe Gelhardt now looking as though he has secured a permanent seat at the table with the first-team, spaces have opened below.

The under-23s will be looking for their next central forward to play ahead of Greenwood, and it looks as though Dean is that man.

Once Patrick Bamford returns to full fitness, Gelhardt may return to the under-23s for a limited space of time, so Dean has to prove his worth in the next month or so.

He is certainly doing that right now, and the 17-year-old is playing well ahead of his years since arriving from Everton last year.

It looks as though the confidence and freedom in this system are doing him the world of good, and if he continues scoring, the sky is certainly the limit.
