Joe Rodon set for Wales milestone after transfer admission on Leeds United star
Leeds United defender Joe Rodon is set to win his 50th cap for Wales during the international break.
The Sun journalist Phil Cadden posted on X (11 November) after he spoke to Craig Bellamy about his progress in a Wales shirt since making his debut in 2019.
Rodon is expected to win his milestone Welsh cap against Iceland on 19 November having become a regular in Daniel Farke’s side, but Bellamy admitted he’s been keen on managing the defender since 2018.
Bellamy said: “I’ve always been impressed by him. When he went to Spurs, I was going to go to Oxford and I wanted him on loan there.
“The amount of caps he has won for Wales at a very good age is impressive.”
Joe Rodon admiration will surprise no one at Leeds United
A stalwart for club and country alike, Rodon being on Bellamy’s radar since 2018 won’t come as a shock to anyone who has seen him dominate the Championship in a white shirt over the past two seasons.
Rodon made 50 appearances in all competitions for United last season, establishing solid partnerships at the back with Pascal Struijk and Ethan Ampadu, and there’s been more of the same this time around.
The Peacocks have the Championship’s best goal difference and joint-third-best defence so far this term, with Struijk and Rodon proving impervious as the latter’s career goes from strength to strength.
Wales have benefitted massively from both Rodon and Ampadu finally finding permanent homes at Elland Road following a series of loan spells away from Tottenham and Chelsea respectively.
While Ampadu, who recently completed his half-century and has led club and country since won’t be adding to his 54 caps any time soon, Rodon is on course to etch his name into Wales’ history books.
