Joe Gelhardt told to quit Leeds for good in emphatic transfer claim

Leeds United attacker Joe Gelhardt is currently on loan at Hull City.

Gelhardt joined the Tigers on loan in January following a slow season at Leeds where was on the fringes of the squad.

Before joining Hull, the 22-year-old played just nine minutes of Championship football at Elland Road. He made it to the bench only on eight occasions, leaving him deprived of any sort of game time for the first half of the season.

Following his arrival at the MKM Stadium, Gelhardt has gone on to make 10 Championship appearances, starting nine of those games.

Joe Gelhardt told to leave Leeds permanently

Regular playing time for the Englishman has done wonders as the attacker has scored twice and is brimming with confidence when he is on the pitch.

Gelhardt is expected to return to Leeds at the end of the season after his loan spell with Ruben Selles’ side has ended. However, it is abundantly clear that the 22-year-old is not part of Daniel Farke’s plans.

He has a contract at Elland Road till 2027 but the idea of a move away cannot be discarded.

Former Aston Villa player Lee Hendrie has urged the Leeds attacker to consider a permanent exit and move away from the West Yorkshire club for the betterment of his future.

He told Football League World: “I think Joe Gelhardt, he hasn’t featured much for Leeds and he doesn’t seem like he fits Daniel Farke’s formation style. They play with sort of really direct, wide men.

“I know he can play in [those] areas, and he has done for Hull since he’s gone on loan and done really well.

“I actually think he has got to leave, and try and find himself somewhere where he can play more and find a bit of a home for himself. Whether it’s at Hull, I’m not sure, but certainly he has to think about leaving Leeds.

“They’re looking like they are going to go into the Premier League, so I think it’ll be time for him maybe that he has to find a home, somewhere where he can establish his career and kick on.”

Time for Joe Gelhardt to leave

Leeds United are leading the Championship table and on course for a direct Premier League promotion. Farke has had an emphatic impact on the team and his side is well-gelled. Regardless of a promotion or not, Gelhardt doesn’t fit into the German manager’s plans.

The former Sunderland man is highly talented and has a high ceiling, but in order to showcase his flair, he needs to be playing regular football which is almost impossible at Elland Road.

He has impressed in a short span of time at Hull and could still have a bigger impact on the East Yorkshire side before the end of the season.

Hull are just five points above the drop zone and should Gelhardt help the Tigers to retain Championship football for next season, there will be plenty of suitors for the Englishman in the summer.
