We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United

Paul Robinson has backed Joe Gelhardt to make an impact for Leeds United when the Whites kickstart their Championship campaign.

Gelhardt has returned to Elland Road after Sunderland’s playoff semi-final heartbreak against Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.

Robinson was impressed with the 21-year-old’s spell at the Stadium of Light and has backed the striker to make an impact at Elland Road next season.

“You’ve got Joe Gelhardt to come back in, let’s not forget. He’s done really well at Sunderland,” Robinson exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“He’ll come back into the reckoning. You’ve got Cody Drameh and Gelhardt coming back in, you’ve got youngsters like Summerville and Sinisterra.

“These players will blossom in the Championship. I don’t think this team needs a lot. It just needs steering in the right direction.

Gelhardt featured 18 times for the Black Cats and registered three goals and three assists during the second half of the 2022/23 season.

The striker is contracted to Leeds until 2027 and will be hoping to make a significant impression during the Whites’ return to the second tier.

Cody Drameh is another player who could come back into contention. However, it’s believed Luton Town and Burnley are both interested in the full-back.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have been scouting a Championship striker as a cut-price transfer emerges.
