Joe Gelhardt now above Tyler Roberts in Marcelo Bielsa pecking order at Leeds United
Joe Gelhardt has moved above Tyler Roberts in the attacking pecking order at Leeds United, according to Sky Sports.
Gelhardt, 19, has broken into Marcelo Bielsa’s senior side this season and started for the first time in the Premier League on Sunday in the defeat to Tottenham.
While 22-year-old Roberts has played every game this season for Leeds in both the Premier League and Carabao Cup, Sky Sports reports that he’s now below Gelhardt in Bielsa’s pecking order.
Gelhardt always looks capable of making something happen when he’s on the pitch.
When he came off the bench against Wolves last month, the former Wigan striker, who’s been compared to Wayne Rooney, won a vital late penalty for the Whites to win a point.
As for Roberts, his appearances have been unproductive and the more he plays, the more you get the feeling as though the ex-West Brom attacker belongs back in the Championship.
It’s odd that Roberts has played every game in all competitions this season.
He’s started just once in the Premier League this season but remains a part of Bielsa’s plans, which doesn’t really help us guess what may happen to the Wales international in January.
Roberts clearly isn’t good enough for the Premier League and he didn’t play a key role for us in the Championship-winning season either.
Bielsa will probably want to hang onto the forward, even though Gelhardt is ahead of him in the pecking order.
