Jim White slams ‘ridiculous’ Victor Orta after incident in Leeds United 2-2 draw v Brentford

Jim White is adamant that Leeds United chief Victor Orta was wrong to remonstrate with a fan during their 2-2 draw with Brentford at Elland Road.

Patrick Bamford’s last-gasp equaliser on Sunday afternoon (5 December) led to director of football Orta furiously shouting and gesturing at a Whites supporter, much to the fury of White.

He told talkSPORT (6 December): “I think he’s wanting it to be seen, ‘look at me, how passionate I am’. A big bit self-serving.

“When it comes to the chief executive Angus Kinnear having to hold Orta back I mean come on, do us a favour, it is ridiculous, it’s farcical. In his position he should not be doing that, that’s the bottom line here.

“There’s an argument that he’s let his own club down.”

Over the top?

There’s always likely to be those on different sides of the argument here.

While some will suggest that Orta was too aggressive and had no right to argue with fans, others will claim that it’s merely passion and should not be driven out of football.

White appears to be in the first camp, and the fact that Kinnear and others had to hold the Spaniard back wasn’t a great look.

Argue by all means, but when it looks like it could spill over and result in a face-to-face confrontation, that’s when it gets more serious.

It never got to that stage so it’s hard to make any theories or suggestions, but it certainly took a bit of shine off Bamford’s return as the headlines were shared with Orta’s incident.

He’s certainly passionate and Leeds fans won’t want that taken out of him completely, but maybe there needs to be an element of self-restraint next time.
