Jim White shares what Marathe said about Daniel Farke – ‘It doesn’t add up’
Jim White has been left confused by what Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe said about Daniel Farke before promotion was earned.
The German head coach has guided the Whites back to the Premier League at the second attempt after a 6-0 win against Stoke City on Monday (21 April).
This ended any worry of another dreaded playoff run after failing in their efforts last campaign against Southampton at Wembley.
Even with that being the case, Farke has been linked with the sack at Elland Road, with White being left baffled with Marathe as quotes re-emerged in LS11.

White baffled by Marathe at Leeds United
The chairman in West Yorkshire has come under fire in the days after promotion, as sack rumours surrounded the head coach.
The 48-year-old helped to earn a place in the Premier League, despite losing the likes of Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter and Archie Gray.
Regardless of this, Farke may not have enough credit in the bank to keep hold of his spot in the dugout ahead of the new season.
This has been labelled as “disrespectful” by Alan Brazil, as the former Norwich City head coach deserves better for his efforts with the Whites.
It is fair to say that White echoed similar thoughts to his fellow radio host as he re-discovered quotes from Marathe which suggested he would keep Farke when he earned promotion.
Revealing this on talkSPORT (24 April, 10:35am), he said: “That’s the man at the top of 49ers Enterprises and Leeds United chairman, Paraag Marathe, saying, ‘Daniel Farke, you bet he’s the man.’ Yet, Farke’s position is in doubt, with the same owners reportedly weighing up other candidates. Does that add up?”
Simon Jordan reacted, saying: “They might think it does. It doesn’t surprise me because there is a different skill set involved in taking a club like Leeds out of the Championship, into the Premier League and then expecting a Championship manager to be successful in the Premier League.
“Daniel Farke is managing a significantly powerful football club, albeit one that has been out of the top flight for a lot of the last 20 years. I don’t know their thinking. Their chairman works for the 49ers group, it’s not his money, so he’s an executive who makes executive decisions as a gateway for the money and the running of the business.”

Marathe must stick to his word at Leeds United
The Whites’ chairman has already said that he would back the ex-Schalke boss in Yorkshire if he were to earn promotion from the Championship.
There is no doubt that Farke deserves a shot to manage in the Premier League again, regardless of his struggles with Norwich in the past.
Daniel Farke | Leeds United | Norwich City |
Games | 102 | 208 |
Wins | 59 (58%) | 88 (42%) |
Draws | 24 | 47 |
Losses | 19 | 73 |
It appears that the Elland Road hierarchy are now getting cold feet and are questioning whether another option would be better for them in the top tier.
Someone like Jose Mourinho could be a more attractive option for the 49ers, but the Portuguese wouldn’t necessarily guarantee success.
The grass isn’t always greener, especially after sacking a successful head coach for no reason.
