Jim White delivers instant verdict on Augustin; new Leeds striker sends Twitter message to fans

Jim White has hailed the signing of Jean-Kevin Augustin at Leeds United and said that he is a “real scalp” for the club to get at this stage in the January window.

After moving from their chase of Che Adams to Augustin on Friday, the deal has happened very quickly.

Augustin passed his medical this morning and Leeds announced the deal – a loan until the end of the season and an option to buy if they get promoted – on Monday morning.

He was announced before the midday cut-off, which means he might be involved on Tuesday night in the game against Millwall, although we’d be surprised.

He’s only played 260 minutes of league football this season and he might take a while to get up to speed.

Talking on talkSPORT on Monday morning (11.45am), White said, “Leeds fans, you wanted a striker, well now you’ve got one. It’s just been announced that Leeds have signed Jean-Kevin Augustin. Now this guy is signing on loan until the end of the season.

“He’s been about a bit. He’s played at PSG as well, made his debut for the club in 2015. He actually helped them win every domestic honour so it’s a real scalp for Leeds to do a deal like this at this stage in the January transfer window. Jean-Kevin Augustin, over the line, on loan at Leeds until the rest of the season.”

Augustin had been dropping huge hints that a Leeds deal was going to happen, liking many tweets from fans over the weekend.

He finally sent his first message to the fans as a Leeds player shortly after the signing was announced.

He said, “No more likes. It’s official. MOT.”

Safe to say, the Leeds fans absolutely love him already.

There are still five days left to go in the winter window and Leeds fans will be hoping that another signing is incoming.

However, we think this deal concludes the business for Leeds.

They wanted three signings and they’ve got them. Ian Poveda and Jean-Kevin Augustin will do very nicely indeed.
