Jim White and Carlton Palmer debate Leeds United struggles live on talkSPORT amid Illan Meslier question marks

Carlton Palmer has expressed his concerns about Leeds United in reply to Jim White ahead of the club’s Premier League clash against Leicester City on Tuesday night (25 April).

Last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Fulham, their third straight loss in the Premier League, left the Whites sitting just one point above the relegation zone with six games of their season remaining.

Illan Meslier has come under fire for his struggles over the past two weeks, which has seen the Frenchman concede a whopping 13 goals from just three games, and BT Sport pundit Joe Cole call for him to be dropped from the starting lineup against the Foxes.

Speaking live on talkSPORT show White and Jordan (25 April), White posed the question: “Are you worried about Leeds now?”

“I am, I really am,” Palmer replied.

“I watched the game at the weekend and they were very very disappointing.

“I mean you could say they defended well in the first half and there were two goalkeeping errors, but they didn’t look like they were going to score a goal and I do worry for them now I have seen that, because Leicester got that result.

“They go to Elland Road, which is never a good place for any team to go and visit, if the Leeds fans give the players give them anything to shout about, it’s a really tough place to go.

“I am worried for them now, looking at them there [against Leicester], they looked derived of any ideas and confidence.

“You look at what has happened over the last few games, Crystal Palace scored five there, Liverpool have smashed them for six there and conceding goals left, right and centre.

“I mean what do they do now about the goalkeeper [Meslier] tonight? He is a very talented, young goalkeeper but what do they do, stick with him or change?”

Very worrying

The phrase you’re never too good to go down seems to be surfacing far to often for Leeds United fans’ liking in recent weeks, amid the club’s struggles.

Although Gracia started off life at Elland Road relatively brightly, things have taken a turn for the worse in quite some style.

The Whites have struggled to dominate proceedings in both boxes over the past fortnight, shipping 13 goals in just three games and scoring three themselves.

If the club harbour any ambitions to stay in the Premier League this season, they simply must tidy up their play in both penalty boxes.

That can start tonight against Leicester City, with three points for either side likely to be a huge step towards Premier League survival.

The experienced pros in the dressing room simply need to step up at this point, with those such as Patrick Bamford, Luke Ayling and Liam Cooper all going to vital to picking up morale for this must-win game.

In other Leeds news, journalist Phil Hay is baffled by the treatment of this Whites player amid Bielsa-era comparison.
