Luke Ayling's strike against Manchester United could win goal of the season for Leeds United, according to Jim Proudfoot.

The Whites full-back scored a fantastic long-range goal to restore parity in the contest, but Leeds went on to concede four more after it, losing 5-1.

Despite a poor day at the office, Proudfoot, who was on commentary for Premier League Productions, looked at one positive for Leeds.

Discussing the goal with Jim Beglin, the talkSPORT commentator said (14/08/21, 1:21pm), "Luke Ayling's last goal won Leeds' goal of the season. Early days, but this one might take a little bit of beating. An absolutely brilliant strike from Ayling."

Impressive strike

It's fair to say that we didn't begin the season on the best of notes, and Ayling's goal was probably the only positive from our short trip to Old Trafford.

None of our players looked like they were getting out of second gear and we seemed overawed by the occasion in front of a full house.

Of course, in terms of the quality Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba possess, none of our players come close, but that's no excuse for not giving it our best effort and on the day, we just seemed disinterested.

Marcelo Bielsa is not one to make wholesale changes after one defeat, but it's important that he has a word with some of our top players.

Our pre-season wasn't particularly impressive either, and we need to return to playing our best football sooner rather than later.

There's work to be done on the training ground for El Loco and his coaches.
