Jesse Marsch’s first words to Mark Jackson at Leeds United revealed

It’s been nearly a month since Jesse Marsch took charge of Leeds United and there is a very different feeling around Thorp Arch.

The feel-good factor is back after two consecutive victories against Norwich City and Wolverhampton Wanderers which has put the dreadful run under Marcelo Bielsa in the distant past.

It wasn’t an immediate turnaround for the American though and Under-23s manager Mark Jackson has revealed what the 33-year-old first said to him when he got the job at Elland Road.

“It’s been great,” Jackson said on the official Leeds United podcast. “I spoke to him for the first game when I was down at the Spurs game, and he said ‘listen, I have some bad news for you, you’re going to have to be in first thing in the morning because you’re going to have to support us’.

“We would have been in any way because we’re in first thing anyway under Marcelo. He’s a really positive coach and manager and he’s really really open.”

Marsch madness

It has been a truly wild month in LS11 but we wouldn’t have it any other way.

The American’s gung-ho football is not that dissimilar to that of Bielsa but it just looks and feels like there is so much more control to our game now.

It’s encouraging too that he made a big point of getting the Under-23s involved as he already has a small squad to choose from.

It is often overlooked in the Premier League how valuable an exceptional academy can be and the Whites are almost league leading in their use of their homegrown products.

It isn’t the most glamorous of decisions any manager can make but the long term benefits outweigh any short term downfalls considerably.

Started by Bielsa, continued by Marsch; the American is proving time and time again that he was the perfect man to replace the Argentine and take Leeds to the next level.

In other Leeds United news, Ian Harte has made a prediction on what the Whites players are doing more of in training now Bielsa has left.
