Jesse Marsch shares where Leeds United ace Jack Harrison can improve
Jesse Marsch has urged Leeds United attacker Jack Harrison to be more aggressive as he instils his new football ideology at the club.
The American was full of praise for the “smart, dangerous” left-winger but outlined several areas of improvement.
The Whites should get used to a new way of life at Thorp Arch as Marsch looks to turn things around at the club following Marcelo Bielsa’s departure.
“Listen, he can run all day,” Marsch told Leeds Live.
“He is explosive, he’s effective in one v one situations, he’s dangerous, he’s smart.
“And so I’m asking him to play a little bit different role than what he had played here is like more of a wide winger, I want them a little bit more to be an interior player at times and to be aggressive more in transition moments.
“But again, he’s intelligent and understands how to apply himself and then I just want to give him the confidence to go out on the pitch and apply the ideas of our football and to achieve.”
Expected
It won’t only be Harrison who will be expected to change, it will be the entire team.
The former RB Leipzig boss has a clear vision for his teams and similarly to Bielsa, he simply won’t budge so it is essential the players get on board with the new manager’s style of play.
Thankfully for them, it isn’t too different to Bielsa’s methods. The relentless free-flowing football will still be there as seen in the disappointing yet encouraging loss suffered against Leicester City.
However, the off the ball work might be difficult for them to grasp. Thankfully there is no more suicidal man-to-man marking that, along with injuries, has left the Whites in the position they are currently in now.
Leeds will now press as a team and hunt the ball back together which saw them so much more difficult to play against in Marsch’s first game and long may that continue and hopefully improve.
