Jesse Marsch shares what he knew about Leeds United lawsuit against Everton
Jesse Marsch has revealed that Leeds United were aware of the financial fair play issues at Everton while he was at Elland Road.
Speaking on Sky Sports Main Event on Monday (19 February, 06:57pm), the former Whites boss said it was hard to understand what the charges were and what had happened at Goodison Park.
After the Toffees were eventually handed a 10-point deduction for breaching the Premier League’s spending rules in November, the American added that it would’ve been nice to see some of those points deducted in the years he was at Leeds.
“We were aware of some of the fair play issues going on with Everton,” said Marsch. “Obviously, Leeds United was part of the original lawsuit that started to push the buttons to challenge the status of Everton.
“It’s always hard for any of us to understand exactly what are the charges, what exactly happened. Again, for me, with my football club, it was just about controlling what we could control and performing the best that we could under the circumstances.
“However, obviously looking back, it would’ve been nice to experience some of those point deductions in the years it was happening and in the years I was at Leeds United.”
Everton situation difficult for Leeds United
It was a difficult situation for Leeds United as no one was really sure what was going on with Everton and many people didn’t believe a points deduction would be the eventual outcome.
But after the offences were committed in a season where the Whites were relegated, it’s unfortunate for them that the ruling wasn’t made earlier when it could’ve aided their bid to remain in the Premier League.
Alongside Burnley and Leicester City, they were set to sue the Blues before the clubs agreed to try and reach a negotiated settlement between themselves.

Although the West Yorkshire club do have a right to feel aggrieved about how the situation was handled by the Premier League, their performances were far from good enough last season and that’s what led to their eventual relegation.
They now find themselves in a strong position to make an immediate return to the top flight, though, while the Toffees are once again fighting against relegation following their points deduction.
In other Leeds United news, a journalist believes a marquee Whites signing will be looking to use what’s happened to him as “motivation” at Elland Road.
