Jesse Marsch shares update on Leeds United striker search

Jesse Marsch has suggested that Leeds United are trying to be “prudent” in their approach to sign a new striker this summer.

The Whites have done some excellent business this summer, but they’re probably not done yet – adding a striker and a left-back remains a priority.

Marsch has now admitted that the Whites are actively looking to sign a striker, but they are very cautious in their approach.

“I understand that transfers are always a lightning rod and people want to talk about this a lot,” said Marsch, as quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“The transfers have I think got us to where we’re at, which is we made them early, we brought in players that we think fit the way we want to play and are playing quite well and at quite a high level.

“Now we’re just trying to be prudent with how we make our last decision. A striker has always been in our mind, but we’re doing it in a way that we think makes sense.

“But yes, obviously, we think that that’s something that we need to continue to evaluate on what kind of move we make.”

Spot on

Leeds do need to sign a new striker this summer, but the question is what sort of a profile they are looking at.

Jesse Marsch has the likes of Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt at his disposal, while Rodrigo has made a fantastic start to the new season.

The Whites have been linked with a host of players ranging from Ben Brereton Diaz to Wilfried Gnonto to Joao Pedro to Goncalo Ramos.

The finance is not an issue here. Leeds are cautious in their approach because they don’t want to be in a situation that hampers the progress of young Gelhardt.

At the same time, adding a quality striker will bolster their squad immensely. Ideally, Leeds should be looking at someone who has got loads of experience and has a good scoring record.

Gelhardt will get a lot of opportunities, and it doesn’t have to be always starting a game. He can come on as a substitute regularly and play in cup games as well. The key for him is to be in the senior team and get more exposure.
