Jesse Marsch shares Leeds United striker signing update

Jesse Marsch has revealed that Leeds United are still “evaluating” the possibility of signing a new striker before the end of the transfer window.

The Whites have been very active in the summer where they’ve made a number of key signings to bolster their squad.

Marsch, while talking to the media ahead of the Southampton clash, stated that despite having a number of options to play upfront, Leeds are still looking for more players.

“Obviously we’ve said a long time that we’ve been evaluating for the right striker,” he said, as shown on Leeds’ official website. “With Patrick being fully fit, it obviously helps us in that area. We also have some flexibility with Rodrigo who can play there and Dan [James] can play there at times.

“I think that we know that we have to add. With Mateo who we just spoke about, with Sonny Perkins, we have some young strikers and obviously Joffy, but Joffy I considered part of the first group.

“We have some good young strikers so a lot of it is also trying to look at from a profile what age do we want and that we don’t want to suffocate some of the young players having opportunities moving forward in the next one to three years.

“So it’s trying to find the right age profile and the right player profile and most importantly the right person to come into the team. A striker, that’s not so easy. That’s not so easy.

“The way that I like to play the game we ask a lot from the strikers to work hard to press to it’s a very demanding position in the way that I like to play. So we’re trying to find the right one.”

Important

Leeds came into the window hoping to find solutions to many problems they’ve had in the previous campaign where they narrowly managed to escape relegation and kept their place in the top-tier of English football.

With just less than three weeks remaining, it is fair to say that the Whites have managed to find players to address most of the issues.

However, one position where they would’ve been desperate to strengthen was the striker’s role and they’ve not managed to find an apt addition to increase competition for Patrick Bamford.

The England international has been key for Leeds ever since his arrival at the Elland Road and his absence last year due to injuries was one of the primary reasons why the side struggled to maintain any sort of momentum.

Therefore, it is important that the Whites make a move quickly and find a player who cannot only play in absence of Bamford but also give the player some competition for a place in the starting XI.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites now have a clear run to sign a £20m-rated left-back as their Premier League rivals have now bowed out of the race.
