Jesse Marsch shares honest verdict on Leeds United defender Cody Drameh
Jesse Marsch has shared that Leeds United defender Cody Drameh has enjoyed his “best time” in the last two weeks with the team.
Drameh, 20, has been linked with a move away from Elland Road, but Marsch insists the youngster is “pretty clear in his head” about what is expected of him.
Luke Ayling and Rasmus Kristensen are ahead in the pecking order at the moment, but the Whites boss has been left impressed by Drameh in training this week.
Drameh is being chased by a host of clubs, and a potential exit in January is on the cards.
The Daily Mail reported (11 November) that Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund were tracking him, while the Whites board reportedly [YEP, 28 November] have taken their contract offer off the table.
“Obviously he has Luke ahead of him right now competing for that position, Rasmus as well, but Cody for me, has had his best time, his best two weeks he’s ever had since I’ve been here have been the last two weeks,” said Marsch, as quoted by Yorkshire Evening Post.
“I think he’s mentally he’s pretty clear in his head and I think he’s playing really well. So I’m really happy for him. We even considered starting him today because we think he’s doing so well. So that’s great to see.”
Encouragement
Drameh will be encouraged to hear what the club manager has just said about him, but does it change anything?
It seems inevitable that he will leave the club in January. He may have impressed in training, but he will struggle to get enough game time, which is something he is looking for.
Kristensen is always going to be the first-choice for the American, while Ayling still has got a lot of football left in him.
Drameh needs regular games to continue his development. There is a lot of interest in him, and that shows that he is a top talent.
He fits the bill for the type of players Leeds want to build for their future, and it is really frustrating to see that the Whites are not doing enough to keep him at Elland Road.
Drameh’s current contract runs until 2024, and March has to convince him to stay put. Ayling is approaching the fag end of his career, so the door could be wide open for Drameh to make his mark, provided he is given opportunities.
