Jesse Marsch names three youngsters that have caught his eye at Leeds

New Leeds manager Jesse Marsch has name-checked Joe Gelhardt, Crysencio Summerville and Charlie Cresswell as youngsters that have caught his eye since taking over.

Marsch took over from Marcelo Bielsa on Monday and will take charge of his first game against Leicester in the lunch-time kick-off today at the King Power Stadium.

With injuries still a problem, the new gaffer was asked about any youngsters that have stood out in training and the American was quick to name three stand-out prospects, as quoted by Yorkshire Evening Post.

“If you count Joffy [Gelhardt] as the younger group then he has been good. I think Crysencio has been good in the group. I think Charlie Cresswell comes in every day and works really hard.

“I know Joffy a little but from watching some of the U-23s and some of the first team matches but I need to get to know these young players more so I can understand what their qualities are and then how to help them continue to grow.”

Opportunity

The arrival of Marsch not only gives Leeds a chance of trying something new to survive in the Premier League, but also gives players a new opportunity to shine.

In a different system with a different way of playing, the club are likely to see different players shine and young players have a new chance to impress the boss and stake their claim for a place in the first-team.

Gelhardt has already made an impression on the fans this season, but Cresswell and Summerville haven’t been given a big chance to make an impact.

But with their performances in training clearly impressing the manager enough for him to name-drop them in public, they have a chance to bring their skillset to help the team survive.

Fans want to love their team and always have enjoyed their academy stars performing well in the past, so this new generation has the chance to do that in the run-in now.
