Jesse Marsch: Mateusz Klich talks underway as new Leeds United exit speculation emerges

Jesse Marsch has confirmed that “some conversations” have taken place with Mateusz Klich about his future after the 32-year-old was linked with a Leeds United exit.

Polish news outlet Sportowefakty has reported (8 December) that Klich is attracting attention from a number of MLS teams, including DC United, where Wayne Rooney is the manager.

Furthermore, Belgium side Royal Antwerp are also understood to hold an interest in the Poland international, with a January exit now likely.

Marsch has since been asked about Klich’s future and the American has revealed some talks have taken place with the 32-year-old.

“It’s not totally clear yet, I think we should hold off on saying anything about that. There have been some conversations but nothing’s concrete yet,” said Marsch (quoted by BBC Sport West Yorkshire, 8 December).

End of an era

With his contract up in 2024, it’s almost certain that Klich won’t be offered a contract extension at Elland Road, and considering his age it should come as no surprise that he wants to leave the club and play regular football. It does feel as if Klich won’t be the last of Leeds’ older players to depart the club in the coming transfer windows.

Luke Ayling has seen a lack of gametime this season and is also entering the latter stages of his career and the right-back could well be looking elsewhere for more first-team minutes. The same can also be said for Adam Forshaw, who’s out of contract in the summer.

Leeds United

With Klich having over a year left on his contract there’s a chance the Whites could recoup a small fee for the midfielder as they plot their own January business. A left-back and a striker must be high on the list of priorities for Marsch, who will be hoping for a busy window for Leeds United
