The Whites are short of options upfront as Patrick Bamford has undergone a groin operation, and he is unlikely to be available for two to three weeks.

It was an ill-tempered friendly where youngster Sonny Perkins was also forced off by injury.

Summerville, 21, has really made massive progress under Jesse Marsch, and the club recently posted a video of him on Twitter [7 December] where he was seen scoring a goal in training.

With Bamford also out injured, Marsch will hope that Summerville’s injury is not serious and that he can make himself available for selection when Premier League action resumes towards the end of the month.

The mini-injury crisis is another timely reminder that the Whites need to bolster their forward department in the January window.
