Jesse Marsch ‘confident’ Leeds United will not involve in relegation battle in 2022-23 season
Jesse Marsch has revealed that his goal is to turn Leeds United into a side that can control the game against bigger teams as well.
The Whites have had a decent beginning to the 2022-23 season where they have managed to register four points from the first two Premier League matches.
Marsch, while talking to ESPN FC, showed optimism about keeping Leeds away from the position they were in the last season.
“We are not in a position of winning a title. Clearly not,” he said. “So I focus so much more on the daily work. What I really want to see is a team that is clear and progressing and continues to be so strong with the mentality and the belief system we had.
“That’s maybe my goal. It’s more about what we want the games to look like. How much can we control against the bigger teams? I am confident that we will not going to be in the position we were in last season.
Marsch’s arrival at Leeds looked as a tricky one considering he arrived at the time when the team looked destined for relegation and he replaced the crowd favourite Marcelo Bielsa on the bench.
However, a few months later, it seems that the 48-year-old has settled well into the system at Elland Road and not only has managed to keep Leeds in the Premier League for at least another season but has also made some smart recruitments following the departure of key players like Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips, who ended up joining Spanish club FC Barcelona and reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.
Looking at how things have been in the early part of the season, Leeds fans will be hoping that Marsch will continue to evolve the side into a team that is not involved in a relegation battle.
The fans will also be hoping that Marsch will be able to get another striker in before the end of the transfer window as there are still concerns about the fitness of Patrick Bamford.
