Leeds United: Jermaine Jenas slams ‘terrible’ Illan Meslier after what he did in 2-1 loss v Fulham

Jermaine Jenas has slammed Illan Meslier after the Frenchman flapped at a cross in the lead up to Harry Wilson’s opening goal in Fulham’s 2-1 Premier League win over Leeds United.

The 23-year-old failed to gather Willian’s cross and allowed the ball to fall perfectly for Wilson to fire Marco Silva’s side into the lead.

Speaking on BT Sport commentary, Jenas was scathing of Meslier’s involvement and insistent he had to do more with the initial delivery.

“He flaps it into a terrible, terrible area. You can’t be just knocking it down into that area there. He’s got to do something more with it,” said Jenas (BT Sport, 13:47, 22 April).

Dreadful

It’s time for Javi Gracia to call on the leaders within Leeds United’s squad. That means the likes of Luke Ayling, Adam Forshaw, Liam Cooper and, unfortunately for Meslier, Joel Robles. The Frenchman has conceded 13 goals in three Premier League games, it’s time for a change.

What exactly was he doing with Wilson’s opener? He palmed it out of the path of a Leeds man and straight into an extremely dangerous area. It’s moments like this which will define Leeds’ season and unfortunately for the 23-year-old, he will be at the forefront of the fans’ scrutiny.

Leeds United

Leed are now firmly in the relegation equation. Performances have been woeful since the Nottingham Forest performance and Gracia desperately needs a result against Leicester on Tuesday evening (25 April).

Failure to beat the Foxes at Elland Road will make life extremely difficult with Newcastle United and Manchester City both to come in the coming weeks.

In other Leeds United news, a Whites player has a potential offer on the table and could seal his permanent Elland Road exit this summer.
