Jermaine Beckford shares ‘terrible’ view after attending Plymouth Argyle vs Leeds United

Jermaine Beckford is pleased with the manner in which Leeds United overcame Plymouth Argyle amid “terrible” conditions in their FA Cup tie.

Leeds prevailed 4-1 after extra time against their Championship rivals at Home Park after the fourth-round replay finished 1-1 in normal time.

The weather made things tough for both sets of players, as highlighted by Beckford, who covered the game life for BBC Sport.

“It was a dominant display from Leeds after Plymouth started the game well,” he said the morning after the game on Sky Sports News [7 February, 10:33am].

“They used the elements and their fans, who made it hostile. It was very enjoyable, although weather wise it was terrible.

“Both teams did well to battle through the wind and pouring rain. It was a really good performance from both sides.

“Both goalkeepers and defences were tested. It was an energetic game and one I thought Leeds should have put to bed in regular time.

“But it wasn’t to be as both keepers were on top form.”

Leeds United through to FA Cup fifth round

Daniel Farke would ideally have seen his side wrap up the victory in normal time, but getting through is the most important thing.

It has been a long time since Leeds had a deep run in this competition, and now either Aston Villa or Chelsea await later this month.

Leeds’ quality ultimately told in the end as Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter came off the bench to help secure the victory.

As Beckford pointed out, the conditions were truly horrible down on the South Coast – nobody sat at home was envious of the players.

Those who made the journey on a midweek night at short notice, with another trip to Plymouth to come next week, deserve huge praise.

The victory ensures the Whites still have plenty to play for on multiple fronts as we gear up for the business end of the season.
