Leeds United: Jermaine Beckford questions something Daniel Farke did vs Plymouth Argyle
Jermaine Beckford has questioned why Leeds United manager Daniel Farke did not call upon his big hitters from the substitutes’ bench sooner against Plymouth Argyle.
Leeds booked a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup with a 4-1 victory against Championship rivals Plymouth Argyle at Home Park on Tuesday (6 February).
Farke brought on Patrick Bamford and Georginio Rutter immediately after Plymouth equalised late on in normal time, while Summerville was introduced just before extra time.
Speaking on Sky Sports News, former Leeds striker Beckford – who covered the game live for BBC – said: “The substitutions made by Daniel Farke, bringing on Bamford, Summerville, Rutter and Joe Gelhardt, they made the difference.
“You do have to question why the changes weren’t made sooner.”
Familiar failings for Leeds United at Home Park
Advancing to the fifth round of the FA Cup was the most important thing heading into the contest with Plymouth Argyle.
Leeds had plenty of chances to kill off the contest in the initial tie at Elland Road and failed to do so, paving the way for this replay.
The same was true at Home Park as the Whites were unable to add to Wilfried Gnonto’s opener and Brandan Galloway equalised, forcing the extra 30 minutes.
There is an argument to be had that Farke perhaps should have brought on either Bamford, Summerville or Rutter with 20 minutes to play to make certain of the win.

As it was, the German held off from doing so, no doubt mindful of Leeds’ upcoming fixtures, and it nearly came back to haunt him.
With either Chelsea or Aston Villa up next, it is more than likely that all three of those start anyway.
And if the win over Plymouth shows us anything, it is that Leeds cannot really afford to be without Summerville in particular right now.
