Jermaine Beckford makes big Leeds claim on European football

Jermaine Beckford has claimed it would be a failure should Leeds United not be in European football within four years time.

The Whites and Andrea Radrizzani have the clear goal of bringing European nights back to Elland Road and have made that no secret.

Beckford believes that survival is the only goal this season, but that will change as the squad starts to get stronger in West Yorkshire.

Speaking to the official Leeds podcast, Beckford claimed that staying in the Premier League consistently will catapult the Whites onto bigger things.

“We’re going to have that windfall of cash coming in,” he said.

“Not to mention the fans coming back in, sponsorships coming all over the place. I think within the next three or four years, we’ll be looking to cement our place in European football in some sort of form.

“That’s got to be the aim, got to be the goal, if we don’t set our sights that high, then we’re ultimately going to be failing ourselves.”

Radrizzani knows that the key behind this will be keeping Marcelo Bielsa.

El Loco recently admitted that he can see himself staying in Leeds for the rest of his life, and keeps dropping hints that we will be around long past this season.

Once that is secure, players must be brought in that can improve the squad dramatically, especially given that the majority of this squad is still from the Championship.

If we can bring in five players of similar stature to Raphinha, European football should be the minimum that the Whites are targeting in the years to come.

European football at Elland Road is a distant memory, but we will all have slight flashes of those famous nights from time-to-time, imagine them again because that is the main goal.
