Jermaine Beckford blasts Archie Gray after what he did in first half for Leeds United v Stoke
Jermaine Beckford blasted Archie Gray after what he did for Leeds United in the first half against Stoke City on Wednesday (25 October).
Speaking on Sky Sports Main Event at half-time (08:52pm), the pundit said Potters forward Ryan Mmaee was “very unfortunate” to not score after taking the ball past the 17-year-old and seeing his effort saved by Illan Meslier.
He added that the England U-19 international, who started the game at right-back, “struggled” in the first half of the game at the bet365 Stadium, with the Whites eventually failing to a 1-0 defeat.
“This one here I think is very unfortunate for himself as well,” said Beckford. “He gets a little touch around the corner of Archie Gray, who’s struggled a little bit today. I think most of the Leeds players have.”
Learning
It’s all still very much a time for Gray to be learning after only breaking into the Leeds first team under Daniel Farke this season.
He caught the eye in the opening few weeks of the campaign, having started the first seven Championship games in midfield alongside Ethan Ampadu.
But after Glen Kamara was offered the opportunity to shine in the middle of the park in recent weeks and Ilia Gruev started against Stoke, he has been shifted to right-back.
While the teenager had an impressive game at fullback against Bristol City, he struggled in the Norwich fixture and again against the Potters.
It may just take him some time to fully adapt to the position under Farke, but it does feel as though he offers much more in midfield after his previous exploits this season.
In other Leeds United news, a BBC pundit has shared a “ridiculous” admission amid the club’s promotion hopes this season.
