Jeff Stelling ranks Leeds United star Patrick Bamford as one of best in PL
Jeff Stelling believes Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford has been one of the best players of the 2020/21 Premier League campaign.
The Sky Sports Soccer Saturday host has been enamoured with the Whites this season and he has hailed Bamford as the pick of the bunch.
Speaking to the Metro, Stelling claims few Premier League players can rival the heroics of the 27-year-old.
“Leeds have been fantastic to watch,” Stelling said.
“Even 6-1 down at Old Trafford, they still played the same way and it was so refreshing.
“Patrick Bamford has been one of the players of the season for me and has made his role an art form.”
Undervalued
Bamford has been simply brilliant this season but he probably won’t be anywhere near the running for any player or team of the year awards outside of Leeds United.
He probably won’t even make the 26-man England squad for the European Championships this summer which seems crazy.
The 2018 signing from Middlesbrough has scored 16 Premier League goals and registered seven assists this season.
Those are dizzying numbers that rank him above all bar four top-tier stars, a quartet that includes Harry Kane and Mohamed Salah.
Only Kane has scored more goals as a recognised striker, so surely Bamford deserves to be in the conversation for the team of the season?
Of course formations may dictate that only one striker is voted and that obviously deserves to be Kane, but it would be a travesty if he was joined by another frontman who wasn’t Bamford.
His talents certainly haven’t been appreciated enough with England manager Gareth Southgate continually snubbing him for a Three Lions call-up.
But at least Stelling and Whites fans recognise his talents, and the lucky thousands in attendance for our clash with West Brom at Elland Road on Sunday will certainly let him know.
