Jeff Stelling predicts shock Leeds United win v Tottenham in Premier League
Leeds United can deliver a shock victory against Tottenham in their last game before the World Cup, according to Soccer Saturday presenter Jeff Stelling.
Arriving on the back of consecutive league wins against Liverpool and Bournemouth, Jesse Marsch’s team face a Spurs side devoid of confidence and missing star man Son Heung-min.
Providing his weekly insight and predictions for the Sky Sports Super 6, Stelling predicted that Leeds would come out as eventual 2-1 winners at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
He said: “Tottenham have been struggling for form recently, with three losses from their last four Premier League games.
“Leeds shocked Liverpool the other week and produced a great comeback against Bournemouth at the weekend, so I think they could stun Spurs before the World Cup.”
Three points the aim
For Leeds, there is surely no better time to face Antonio Conte’s side than now.
With Spurs arriving on the back of a resounding defeat to a struggling Nottingham Forest side in the Carabao Cup, Leeds will definitely fancy their chances of taking three points on the road.
If Marsch’s side can continue where they left off against Bournemouth – full of creativity and attacking intent – they could pose a serious threat to Spurs. However, the high pressing that Leeds deploy could play into Kane and co’s hands, having proven themselves to be at their best when playing in behind a high defensive line.
The likes of Sam Greenwood and Wilfried Gnonto will surely be likely to make the starting XI after impressing from the bench against Bournemouth, in what could be an extremely youthful lineup.
However, if Leeds are to claim three points as Stelling predicts, they will have to keep it tight at the back and rely once again on the performance of the ever-improving Illan Meslier.
