Jeff Stelling predicts result of Leeds United clash vs Aston Villa

Sky Sports host Jeff Stelling is backing Leeds United to be successful on their return to Premier League action against Aston Villa this weekend.

The Whites last competed on the pitch in a 5-2 defeat to Brentford back on 3 September and have had almost a month off due to postponements owing to the Queen’s death and the international break.

But after having time to get players fit again and prepared for the clash at Elland Road, Stelling has predicted that Jesse Marsch’s side will come away with a 1-0 win over Steven Gerrard’s side while making his prediction for Super 6.

Leeds are winless in their last three games after defeat to Brighton and a draw with Everton before the Brentford game, so will be keen to get back on track after a period in the season where they got an unexpected reset.

Villa on the other hand bagged a huge win in their last game when they beat Southampton 1-0 thanks to Jacob Ramsey’s first goal of the season.

Must win

It seems like a stretch to say that at this point in the season after a month off that wasn’t supposed to happen, but a win is necessary here for momentum more than anything else.

Not getting the points won’t be detrimental to the hopes of survival or a top half finish in the table come May, but with six games in total in October it’s imperative to get off to a good start.

Villa have been struggling and had more players on international duty, meaning Marsch should have had far more time to prepare and should be welcoming some first-team players back from injury too.

Gerrard is likely to have a weakened team after injuries picked up, and with the home crowd behind them and the extended break meaning everyone is well rested Leeds will feel like this is an incredibly winnable fixture.

Stelling clearly feels the same, backing the team for a 1-0 win and fans will be hopeful that he’s spot on with his pick for this game.
