Jeff Stelling predicts Leeds United showdown v Wolves in Carabao Cup
Jeff Stelling has shared a three-word prediction for Leeds United’s Carabao Cup clash with Wolves on Wednesday night (9 November).
The Whites have won back-to-back Premier League games against Liverpool and Bournemouth in recent weeks, easing the pressure on Jesse Marsch’s job at Elland Road.
But ahead of a game in the Carabao Cup against Premier League opposition, Stelling has given a short prediction on what he expects to happen by picking Leeds to win the game 1-0 at Molineux.
“I expect to see a couple of weakened teams for the Carabao Cup fixtures, however Manchester City will progress to the round of 16 stage with a win over Chelsea, who have lost back-to-back matches in the Premier League,” he said on Super 6 (8 November).
“Elsewhere, Liverpool will win comfortably, while Newcastle and Leeds will get through.”
A cup run would be ideal stuff for Leeds United fans this season after the agony of last season and the way this year has gone so far.
Wolves are still being managed by an interim coach despite appointing Julen Lopetegui for the second half of the season, meaning they are no doubt at a disadvantage for this game.
Both sides are likely to make several changes to their starting lineup in the game with fringe players likely to get a run out, and it’s Leeds who have a stronger squad with more depth on paper too.
A win would be a great way to continue momentum at the club right now after a really tough period that saw fans turn on the manager and board, and with a month-long break coming up we need all the positive vibes possible right now.
Get the win by any means necessary to be in the cup after the World Cup and then focus on the weekend clash with Tottenham before resetting and refocusing for the new year.
