Jeff Stelling mocks Kris Boyd for Leeds and Marcelo Bielsa claim

Kris Boyd’s outlandish comments on Leeds United before they beat Manchester City have come back to bite him with pundits queuing up to tease him.

The ex-Scotland striker launched into a tirade against the Whites and Marcelo Bielsa on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday [10/04/21], claiming recently-sacked Chris Wilder had done the “exact same” job as El Loco and demanding more from the side after they “spent nearly £100million in the summer.”

Leeds made a mockery of this claim just hours later after beating Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium with ten men, and two weeks later Boyd is still the brunt of jokes at Sky towers.

Jeff Stelling and Ally McCoist took turns to ridicule him on Soccer Saturday [14:00, 24/04/21], with anchor Stelling starting off the exchange.

Stelling: “This week I just wish Kris Boyd was here. All you Leeds fans would wish he was here as well because remember what Kris Boyd said about Leeds United, was it ‘overrated’ or was it ‘underachieving’ or was it both?

“Did he say they spent too much money? Well to me those goals against Man City said that was £100million blooming well spent Boydy! I think every Leeds fan would tell you exactly the same.

“I tell you what, Stuart Dallas has made Kris Boyd choke on his words!”

McCoist: “Jeff, you’ve got to let me in here, I can categorically tell you guys that is not the views of all ex-Rangers strikers on Sky Sports south of the border, I want to clear that up.”

Stelling: “I think it’s the view of one football pundit in the UK to be absolutely honest.”

Silenced

We’d like to join the queue and ask, where are you Boyd? It looks like he’s gone into hiding since uttering those absolutely ludicrous comments.

Comparing Bielsa to Wilder and taking aim at our summer spending was nonsensical at the time but he was made to look doubly foolish after we beat the runaway Premier League leaders.

Maybe he was just another media figure trying to wind up Whites supporters, or maybe he truly believed in his words.

Either way, he’s well and truly been made to eat them up now.

Since that win over Pep Guardiola’s side we’ve gone on to draw with reigning champions Liverpool to cement our position in the top ten ahead of our final six fixtures, and there is still a slim chance of claiming a European spot.

Boyd might be best thinking more carefully about his words next time around.
