Jeff Stelling hits back at ‘derogatory’ talkSPORT Leeds United action live on air

Jeff Stelling moved to distance himself by a decision from talkSPORT when discussing Leeds United live on air on Wednesday (29 May).

Stelling and Ally McCoist were readying themselves to discuss the Whites on the Breakfast Show when a recorded version of the chant “Leeds are falling apart again”, sung to the tune of Joy Division’s “Love will tear us Apar” was played prior to them coming back on air.

However, the decision was not particularly welcomed by Stelling, nor his co-presenter McCoist.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (7:20am), Stelling said: “That’s a bit harsh. That was ‘Leeds are falling apart’ which is pretty darn derogatory isn’t it Coisty?”

McCoist replied: “I think so!”

Stelling finished by saying: “Shall we just distance ourselves from that? We had nothing to do with that did we?”

Leeds United already desperate to silence the doubters

Leeds fans are so used to hearing this “banter” chant that nowadays it is water off a duck’s back and often the Whites’ fanbase will chant it ironically themselves.

So, it will be met with little more than an eye roll and a shrug of the shoulders that talkSPORT opted to play it out on air, but still fair play to Stelling for calling it out.

For Leeds, the fans, Daniel Farke and the players all the jibes coming their way should be used as fuel to come back even stronger next term and give it another go at automatic promotion.

Sure, things ended on a sour note this term with more Wembley heartbreak but, when the dust settles, there are plenty of positives to take and it’s not as if Leeds were miles off going up is it?

A few strategic moves in the market and there is every chance Leeds will compete at the right end of the table again next season.
