Jeff Stelling dissociates himself from Leeds United song played live on talkSPORT

Jeff Stelling wasn’t one for messing around as a Leeds United song was played live on talkSPORT.

The Whites fell to a 2-2 draw against Swansea City on Saturday as Zan Vipotnik scored a 96th-minute equaliser at Elland Road.

Illan Meslier has come under fire once again for his performance, which ultimately saw the home side drop two points in the promotion race.

Even with that being the case, Stelling didn’t feel comfortable with mocking the LS11 club live on air.

Stelling reacts to Leeds United song on talkSPORT

Once again, Leeds are the laughingstock of the English footballing world despite sitting second in the second tier and on the verge of promotion.

This comes after throwing away an 86th-minute lead against the Swans and allowing Sheffield United to maintain the top spot.

After Daniel Farke’s side threw away their advantage last season before losing to Southampton in the playoffs, there is an air of Deja Vu at Elland Road.

As a result, it is little surprise that Joy Division’s ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ is being blasted out by rival supporters once again at this time of year.

TalkSPORT followed suit on 31 March (08:49am), but Stelling wasn’t one for piling in on the Whites after a frustrating weekend.

He said: “I’m Jeff Stelling, super Ally McCoist is with me. We’d both like to dissociate ourselves with the piece of music that is playing at the moment.”

McCoist added: “100 per cent”

Leeds must earn promotion this season

There is no doubt that Leeds have to earn promotion this season otherwise, it could prove to be curtains for Farke ahead of next season.

With the squad that the German has at his disposal, there is little reason why his side shouldn’t be strolling to a top-two finish.

Continuing to trust Meslier is proving costly, especially with the quality that is available throughout the rest of the side.

Gnonto scored his first goal since early February and will be hoping of hitting a positive run of form in the second tier.

With clashes coming up against Luton Town and Middlesbrough, there is so much pressure piling on the Whites that could prove to be costly.

If negative results are picked up in these outings, Joy Division is only going to be played more and more between now and the end of the season.
