Javi Gracia breaks silence on Jack Harrison Leeds United contract as Elland Road limbo continues
Javi Gracia has broken his silence on Jack Harrison with the 26-year-old yet to sign a new deal at Leeds United.
The former New York City FC man nearly sealed a deadline-day move to Leicester City before the board pulled the plug at the eleventh hour.
Talk of Harrison signing a new deal emerged in February, with Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett claiming (via Twitter, 2 February) the winger was set to commit his future to the Yorkshire club.
However, a new contract is yet to materialise and Leeds’ head coach has since broken his silence on the in-form attacker.
“This is the kind of players I think we have to take care of because they are the present and the future of the club,” said Gracia (quoted by Yorkshire Evening Post, 24 March).
Dragging on
This is a saga which is dragging on and needs resolving soon. Talk of a new deal has been rumbling for nearly two months. Jesse Marsch’s departure clearly hasn’t helped proceedings, but with Harrison in good form, this is a move the board should make.
He’s in the prime of his career, proven in the Premier League, and will give Leeds at least three more years of good service. This delay could well be a cause for concern.
The threat of relegation could also be having a significant impact on the club’s ability to thrash out a new deal for Harrison. If they were comfortably in midtable, there’s a strong chance he would’ve committed his future to Leeds.
With Championship football a genuine possibility, Harrison could be assessing his options before finally putting pen to paper. This is a saga which could be resolved at the end of the season.
