Jason Cundy ridicules Leeds United fan live on air after legitimate Sunderland complaint

Jason Cundy has poked fun at a Leeds United fan over complaints they had about referee Stuart Atwell following their 1-0 loss to Sunderland.

Leeds‘ Premier League survival hopes received a blow on Tuesday after a disappointing defeat at Elland Road that leaves them six points above the bottom three.

Daniel Farke‘s side had 70 per cent possession and 18 shots to the visitors’ three, but Habib Diarra’s 70th-minute penalty separated the two sides.

Ex-PGMOL chief Keith Hackett felt Leeds should have received a penalty for Luke O’Nien’s holding of Pascal Struijk in the box as Leeds fans cried foul over the officials again.

However, former Chelsea player Cundy felt one instance in the game went the home team’s way and that needed to be pointed out.

‘You can’t ask for much more than that’

On talkSPORT’s Sports Bar on Tuesday night, one Leeds fan rang into hosts Jamie O’Hara and Cundy to complain about the referee.

The supporter moaned about Sunderland’s lengthy stoppages, about supposedly going down too easily, and getting the rub of the green on the decisions.

However, those delays were picked up by the officials, and 12 minutes of added time were added on. In the end, Leeds couldn’t find an equaliser as Sunderland hit the 40-point mark.

During the call-in, Cundy said: “I’d love to hear from a Sunderland fan if they thought he was shocking. How many minutes did they add on at the end?”

When the Leeds fan responded with 12, Cundy roared with laughter and replied: “You can’t ask for much more than that. 12 minutes?! And I think it went beyond that.”

After finding out they played over the 12 minutes, Cundy quipped, “So 13 minutes is enough…”

While Leeds will feel aggrieved with the officials, they didn’t create enough to break down a stubborn Sunderland side.

The result means that if West Ham beat Fulham on Wednesday, Leeds will be three points clear of the Hammers as the relegation fight hots up.

What are Leeds’ chances of getting relegated?

While Leeds’ defeat against Manchester City on Saturday was something of a free hit, the Sunderland one was anything but.

The Mackems had one of the worst away records in the Premier League but managed to do a number on Leeds.

The Yorkshire outfit are still 15th in the division, but fans will be keeping a nervous eye on how West Ham and Nottingham Forest fare on Wednesday, in addition to Tottenham on Thursday.

Leeds are still predicted to stay in the Premier League, partly due to their points haul and the teams they still have to face, but this was a big missed opportunity.

Leeds have now won just one of their last six league games as they prepare for winnable fixtures away to Crystal Palace and at home to Brentford.

Farke’s team need to move on from this setback and quickly.
