Jamie Shackleton suffers 'Nasty' head injury in Leeds United loss v Ajax

Jamie Shackleton suffered a “nasty” head injury as Leeds United lost 4-0 to Ajax in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday, according to Phil Hay.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men were well and truly humbled by the Dutch giants at the Johann Cruyff Arena but while the result wasn’t important, keeping players fit was.

Unfortunately, 21-year-old midfielder Shackleton was left shaken by a mid-air collision later on in the second half, as reported by The Athletic’s Hay.

The ex-Yorkshire Evening Post journalist was also left baffled by Marcelo Bielsa’s reaction to the injury, with the Leeds manager seemingly berating Shackleton as he made his way off the pitch.

Calm down, Marcelo

It’s a pre-season friendly and Leeds are losing heavily to one of the top teams in European football. Most of us wouldn’t get too wound up by that but, then again, most of us aren’t Bielsa.

We love Bielsa’s intensity and his no-nonsense approach but there are times when he needs to tone it back a bit.

He shouldn’t have reacted the way he did to Shackleton’s injury, especially when the young lad seemed to be proper shaken by the blow to his head.

Some Leeds fans on Twitter also feel the same:

Bielsa probably didn’t see it as clearly as fans watching at home did because we refuse to believe he’d berate a player who’s suffered a head injury.

It’s about time football starts to take head injuries more seriously and while there is work being done, there’s still a long way to go.

How many times have we seen it when a player goes down with a head injury and force themselves to play on? It needs to stop.

At least Shackleton went off and we really hope he’s okay and doesn’t suffer anything like a concussion.

Get well soon, Shacks. It could be a massive season for you.
