Jamie O'Hara has delivered his "killer" verdict after Leeds United were defeated 3-0 by Middlesbrough in the EFL Cup on Wednesday (14 August).

Leeds opened their 2024/25 campaign with an unexpected 3-3 draw with newly promoted Portsmouth before crashing out of the EFL Cup, conceding six goals at home in the process.

Despite making Elland Road a fortress last season, waiting until April to lose a home match, Daniel Farke's side have already suffered from two shocking performances in front of the fans.

Speaking via talkSPORT on Wednesday (14 August), O'Hara said: "It's a killer that, though.

"You think pre-season is going well, looking good, then six goals. You're like, 'Oh no, what's happened here?'"

Leeds United must improve after opening two matches of 2024/25 campaign

Leeds will feel extremely hard done by as they kick off a second consecutive campaign in the Championship after missing out on relegation, which will only hurt more after the beginning of this season.

The Whites had several chances to pip Leicester City or Ipswich Town to automatic promotion last term but instead slipped into the play-off spots before falling at the final hurdle against Southampton.

Leeds' hopes of gaining promotion have already taken considerable hits, firstly after Crysencio Summerville's move to West Ham United, with Georginio Rutter now deciding to join Brighton [Alex Crook].

Farke still has plenty of talent at his disposal in West Yorkshire, but after two disappointing results against Pompey and Boro, they must prove they have what it takes to achieve promotion to the Premier League.

Luckily for the Whites, there is plenty of time to turn their fortunes around, and it is far too soon to judge the manager and players. Fans can be very unforgiving, though, so Farke will want to change things as soon as possible.
