Jamie Carragher slams Leeds & Marcelo Bielsa after crushing 6-2 defeat v Man United
Jamie Carragher has criticised Leeds United for not adapting to their opponents’ strengths in the Premier League this season.
Leeds fell to a 6-2 defeat against Manchester United on Sunday afternoon at Old Trafford, with the likes of Gary Neville claiming it is impossible to criticise them.
Carragher disagreed, and claimed that the Whites played perfectly into Manchester United’s hands by leaving their midfield wide open.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Carragher has claimed that Bielsa and Leeds are not “perfect” or “bulletproof.”
“I’ve loved watching them, I really have,” he said.
“The only thing I would take you up on that you’ve got nothing critical to say about them, my big thing about Bielsa, playing the way they do – you said it was made for Manchester United, that’s not a good thing.
“I’m not a big believer in someone playing exactly the same way, week in, week out no matter who you play. The thing about Leeds and Bielsa, it’s not like Bielsa’s way is absolutely perfect and bulletproof.”
Carragher has a point, but they should know we won’t change by now.
Leeds have always been left open at certain points of games, but if the Whites took their chances at critical points of the game yesterday, it would have been a very different clash.
Scott McTominay picked a very good time for his side to actually unleash his potential, rather than sit in midfield and look very average – these are things that the Whites have to manage better.
Mateusz Klich looked far too tired in midfield yesterday, and if he didn’t lose his runner on numerous occasions, it wouldn’t have looked as open through the middle.
Looking at Sofa Score’s attacking momentum graph, Leeds definitely held their own, but just didn’t capitalise on their moments of dominance.
Manchester United did, and that was the difference.
Next up is Burnley and West Brom, and six points from them would be the perfect Christmas present for the Whites.
