Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has claimed that the Leeds dressing room will have taken a step back and admired the raw talent of Raphinha.

The Brazilian winger grabbed the headlines for with a dazzling display against Crystal Palace.

Carragher spoke highly of him in his post-match analysis for Sky Sports and compared him to three top-class Premier League players.

He also likened Raphinha’s impact at Leeds to the influence of Xabi Alonso when he first arrived at Liverpool.

As relayed by The Mirror, Carragher said, “Some of his (Raphinha) touches and his play when he comes inside, we’ve highlighted his movement as well.

“You see that shot there, that’s so typical of a wide man, that penetrating run that we talk about with (Mohamed) Salah, (Sadio) Mane and (Raheem) Sterling, all the great wide players.

“We’ve all been there as players and as soon as someone comes in, you think ‘aye, aye’.

“I’ll never forget one player – as soon as Xabi Alonso came to Liverpool – it’s like you could tell in the session, the way he passed, the pace of the pass, the noise of it.”

“As a dressing room you sort of step back and say that we’ve got one here and it sounds like that was what the Leeds dressing room did too.”

Leeds United

Beginning to attract attention

Raphinha displayed his quality as soon as he arrived at Elland Road and now people are starting to take notice.

We always like to see our players getting the praise and recognition they deserve and we’re not concerned about big clubs coming knocking.

Liverpool have already registered an interest in Raphinha but that just proves that we’re heading in the right direction.

We’d be more worried if no one was interested.

Raphinha is playing at the top of his game right now and if he continues to produce goals and assists as he has done in recent games then he will be seen as one of the best wingers in the league.

He still has some way to go to match Salah and Mane but the talent is there.
