Jamie Carragher says all Leeds United fans will be asking the same thing live on Sky Sports

Jamie Carragher understands that Leeds United fans will be frustrated with their start to the season.

Leeds lost 3-0 away to Brighton in a hugely disappointing result and performance in their 10th Premier League outing last time out.

Daniel Farke had few positives to take away from the AMEX, with Gabriel Gudmundsson’s performance against Brighton being particularly poor.

That has only seen pressure build on the German, with Farke central to early sack rumours at Leeds, with his side sitting 16th in the Premier League.

Things could have been worse, but Carragher has spoken out to reveal his understanding of the frustration emerging at Elland Road.

Jamie Carragher compares Leeds United and Sunderland

Sunderland and Leeds battled it out in the transfer market over the summer after both confirmed promotion from the Championship.

The Whites earned their place in the top tier as champions after Manor Solomon netted a late winner on the final day against Plymouth Argyle.

By comparison, the Mackems earned a last-gasp Play-Off final win over Sheffield United after Tommy Watson’s dramatic winner.

The Black Cats finished 24 points behind Leeds, but have had a much better start to the season and currently sit fourth in the Premier League.

This factor has caused frustration in West Yorkshire, and Carragher has shared his understanding of this live via Sky Sports Main Event on 9 November.

He said: “Where the pressure will come from is their own supporters, who will be, ‘Why can’t that be us [Sunderland]?’

It’s not just Sunderland being one of the promoted teams, it’s because they were a long way behind Burnley and Leeds in the Championship last season.

Looking at Sunderland, it’s a brilliant story for the Premier League, but they [Leeds and Burnley] are probably getting it in the neck from their supporters right now looking at Sunderland because, as we know, promoted teams find things tough, but right now they [Leeds] aren’t in the bottom three and that’s the aim of the game.

Leeds can’t reflect negatively on Sunderland success

In recent years, there has been no example of a newly promoted side achieving survival in the top division.

Sunderland, Leeds and Burnley all now sit clear of the relegation zone after 10 games, a record which has come as a surprise to many.

The Black Cats are a massive anomaly, and their success at this stage of the campaign will arguably be impossible to replicate.

Leeds won’t help themselves by comparing themselves to such an outlier after what has actually been a positive start to the season.

Supporters would have taken being 16th with the chance of moving up to 13th with a six-pointer against Nottingham Forest coming up.
