Jamie Carragher opens up on ‘brilliant’ Leeds under Revie, reveals wish for Whites in PL

Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville have included Leeds United under the management of Don Revie as one of the greatest ever English sides.

From 1968 to 1971, the Whites won the First Division title, the FA Cup and the Fairs Cup as well as finishing as runners-up in the league twice.

Carragher and Neville placed Revie’s Leeds as the 12th-best side ever to play English football behind the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Nottingham Forest.

Carragher admitted they were a brilliant side under Revie, and claimed that he wants to see the Whites back in the Premier League next season under Marcelo Bielsa.

“That was a great era for Leeds, and they were runners-up in so much,” he said via Sky Sports.

“I never saw them play but they were a brilliant team that you heard so much, that Revie team. In some ways, that Leeds team, even though they won league titles, they are probably remembered a lot for losing big games, but they were there or thereabouts throughout the 70s.

“They were a brilliant team and hopefully we see the club back in the Premier League next season.”

Leeds have started to find their feet recently after a poor run of form. The Whites have recorded back-to-back wins with consecutive clean sheets for the first time since December in the Championship.

Prediction expert Nate Silver has recently released the chances of Leeds earning promotion on his website, FiveThirtyEight. After the last two results at Elland Road, the Whites now have an 85% chance of finishing in the top two.

As well as that, the Whites stand a 37% chance of winning the title with 12 games to go. Leeds only have Fulham left to play from the top-six, so it could be said that we have the so-called ‘easiest’ run-in of the top teams in the league.

Leeds would win the majority of their remaining games on paper, so Carragher could well get his wish of seeing the Whites back in the Premier League after more than 15 years away.
