Jamie Carragher destroys ‘shocking’ Leeds United players in immediate reaction to Liverpool thrashing

Jamie Carragher hammered the Leeds United defenders as “shocking” as he reacted to the 6-1 defeat to Liverpool at Elland Road.

The Whites were unfortunate to go behind to a Cody Gakpo goal in the first half on Monday night (17 April) when there looked to be an obvious handball from Trent Alexander-Arnold in the build up.

But, the Luis Sinisterra strike just after the break aside, the home side’s performance was dismal, with the likes of Pascal Sruijk, Junior Firpo and Rasmus Kristensen particularly bad at the back, and Weston McKennie nowhere to be seen in midfield, as Mo Salah and Diogo Jota both registered braces and Darwin Nunez added a late sixth.

Seconds before the final whistle Carragher turned his fire on the back line, posting ahead of his Sky Sports post-match analysis on Twitter: “Post match: Three Leeds managers now, none of them can stop them conceding goals, shocking defenders. Trent sensational in his new hybrid role!”

Dreadful

There was so little positive to pick out of this performance, because even if an actual result was too much to ask against a side that still possesses a lot of quality there simply had to be a lift from the 5-1 Crystal Palace defeat last weekend.

Instead, at the first sight of difficulty they again fell apart, and it is now 11 goals conceded in two games to make the Leeds United defence the worst in the Premier League.

Alarm bells are well and truly ringing now as the improvement that Javi Gracia had brought about has vanished at startling speed.

Once more it looks like the fans are going to be relying on results elsewhere being as bad as those from their own team after two utterly demoralising losses.

Gracia has to stop the rot fast because this has become ugly and is starting to bear all of the hallmarks of the final weeks of the Marcelo Bielsa reign, as well as some of the darkest days under Jesse Marsch.

Robin Koch wasn’t too awful on the night, but Max Wober’s return from injury is apparently now the only thing between an assured performance and a collapse.

In other Leeds United news, the manager shared yet more worrying injury news live from Elland Road on a miserable night.
