Jamie Carragher changes mind about ESL after hearing Leeds fans
Jamie Carragher has changed his mind about whether the European Super League will happen – and Leeds United fans played their role in that.
Leeds fans descended upon Elland Road on Monday night to protest against the formation of the ESL while Marcelo Bielsa and his players also showed their objection towards the project.
Carragher, despite being a Liverpool legend, has openly gone against his former club on the subject of the ESL and did feel as though it was definitely going to go forward.
However, the ex-England defender’s outlook changed on Monday during the 1-1 draw between Leeds and Liverpool.
“At Sky Sports yesterday I felt resigned to Super League happening, but during Monday Night Football after hearing managers, players & fans from Leeds and Liverpool, I’m convinced if we all get together and forget our tribalism we can stop this,” said Carragher on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday morning.
“Keep banging the drum.”
Get rid of it – now
Have we ever seen anything that has unified fans so strongly?
You hear the odd idiot show their support for the ESL but they’re probably online trolls or paid actors to phone in radio shows to create some drama.
However, there’s no doubt that 99 per cent of fans are totally against the idea of the ESL and, as we saw on Monday, fans are willing to show that.
Leeds versus Liverpool happened at the perfect time.
You have two clubs with similar, proud histories who are two of the biggest in the UK. One of them is sticking to it’s values while the other’s owner is willing to destroy them in the pursuit of more money.
Liverpool’s owners are a disgrace. They need to be forced to sell the Merseyside club as soon as possible if the ESL idea goes down the drain.
They don’t have Liverpool’s best interests at heart and they certainly don’t care about the best interests of English football or European football as a whole.
We hope Carragher is right in saying that this can change but surely they cannot ignore the widespread anger shown towards the idea.
In other Leeds United news, this Yorkshire-born pundit has been waxing lyrical about a “fantastic” attacker who’s been linked with the Whites.
