Jamie Carragher can’t believe what he’s heard about Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Leeds – ‘Something special’

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s recent exploits for Leeds United has left Jamie Carragher stunned.

Calvert-Lewin has scored six goals in his last five Leeds matches, a run which has helped propel Daniel Farke’s side away from the relegation zone.

Calvert-Lewin is earning shouts for an England recall after his tremendous displays in front of goal for the Elland Road outfit.

One particular aspect of the 28-year-old’s form surprised Carragher when he was told about it live on air on 22 December.

Why was Carragher so surprised by Calvert-Lewin reveal?

Calvert-Lewin notched a double for Leeds as they condemned Crystal Palace to a 4-1 defeat on 20 December.

Analysing the Whites frontman on Monday Night Football on 22 December, Dave Jones revealed the position where all of his goals so far have come from is actually directly in line with the penalty spot.

He said: “Each ball represents the position he has been in, when he has shot a goal.

“I can tell you this one, which is furthest away is actually a penalty, they are all directly in line with the penalty spot, that is amazing isn’t it?”

Carragher reacted with surprise, and his voice pitched up and went squeaky, as he said:

“It is, it’s fantastic, you think about goalscorers and you talk about where they should be.

“You talk about the second six-yard box as well, he has got a couple inside the six-yard box, three or four outside the six-yard box.”

“If he keeps that up, he is a genuis isn’t he, he is something special.”

Why Leeds won’t care where Calvert-Lewin’s goals come from

While it is an interesting fact, Farke and Co will not care one bit about where his goals come from, only that he is putting them in the net consistently.

Calvert-Lewin drew a lot of flak at the start of his Whites career as he kept missing chances, but now he seems to have found the golden touch.

The fact that all his goals have come from the same region suggests that the LS11 outfit are doing the right things when it comes to creating chances, which should stand them in good stead for the rest of the campaign.

The former Everton striker was brought in to get the goals that will keep the Yorkshire side in the top-flight, and he is doing a brilliant job at the moment.

If he maintains it, then he won’t just be a genius as Carragher claims, the move to bring him into the club will also prove to be just that.
